The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers ( NUPENG ) has announced the suspension of its ongoing nationwide strike over its dispute with the Dangote Group . Naija News recalls that NUPENG had on Monday declared a nationwide industrial action to protest the refusal of the Dangote Group to allow its workers to join the union, particularly NUPENG. It was gathered that the strike was called off after parties reached an agreement at a meeting convened by the Department of State Services ( DSS ). The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Labour and Finance, as well as officials of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority ( NMDPRA )..

FG Summons Dangote,NUPENG To emergency ahead of planned Nation Wide Strike

The Federal Government through the Minister of Labour and Employment , has summoned the management of Dangote group and the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG , to an emergency meeting on Monday, September 8, in a frantic efforts to halt the planned nationwide strike over alleged anti-union policy among others.   The oil workers have already announced a commencement of a total strike from Monday, which has been endorsed by the Nigeria Kabour Congress, NLC . Meanwhile, NLC has written to its over 54 affiliates and 36 councils to prepare to join the strike, saying the battle, among others, is the survival of Labour movement and dignity of workers . The strike raises fears of fuel scarcity , economic paralysis , and social unrest if the issues raised by NUPENG and NLC are not resolved quickly.

Troops The Nigerian Army has reported a series of successful operations against bandits in Kogi State as part of a new offensive to restore peace in the region. The operation, code-named EGWUA A TITE II , began on September 1, 2025. The Commander of 12 Brigade and Force Commander of Operation Accord III, Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi , personally led further exploitation missions, during which several bandit settlements were destroyed while troops maintained dominance of the area through patrols and ambushes. According to a statement from Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 12 Brigade, troops have so far neutralized at least nine bandits and rescued three kidnap victims.
